The Miller Company Breaks Ground With LEED-Certified Building in Grapevine

Staff Writer

The Miller Company, which has been in Colleyville for 15 years, had a groundbreaking for its 14,000-square-foot building in Grapevine, and the design has been LEED certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.

This is the first commercial building in Grapevine to be LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design] certified.

LEED is the nationally-accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

Although Grapevine has residential buildings that are LEED certified, this is the first commercial structure in town designed to meet the standard.

The groundbreaking took place on April 22, Earth Day.

"It’s about practicing what we preach," said Kelly Imig, company spokeswoman.

The building, at 1090 Texan Trail, will be 14,000 square feet, including warehouse space.

Imig said the building should be completed late this year or early 2009. The building will become the company headquarters.

"We think that it is going to be a great area, and they are developing it more over there," she said. "We are excited about that location."

The Miller Company is a rewards and recognition agency that helps business clients make their brands internally and externally through the implementation of recognition systems, incentives and promotions.

Imig said the business is all about company engagement and helping companies keep their employees happy so that they can retain them.
